High in the Taita Hills in South East Kenya, a group of women meet to weave our Pendant Lights.
They share materials and skills. But they tell us that much more important to them are the laughs and songs and stories that they share.
Most weaving groups in the region go by the name of the area they are based in. This group call themselves 'Mapatano' which means 'togetherness'.
We feel so honoured to be able to share their craft with you.
Our talented female artisans twinkle with pride when they talk about being able to educate their children with the money that they earn from their craft.
Their daughters, in particular, now have a chance for a future that they otherwise would not have had.
Our vision is to provide dependable, full time employment to the entire group of weavers that we work with - so that poverty and financial insecurity become things of the past for these women.
We work closely with a community based organisation on the ground in Kenya to develop our exclusive ranges of Pendants.
It is an incredible organisation that assists with providing weavers with access to materials etc that they need to earn an income from weaving.
It is a relationship we value highly, and allows us to ensure that:
Truly a labour of love from beginning to end.
From stripping the sisal, to dyeing it using natural dyes from roots and plants, to weaving over 110 knots per square inch - each part of the process is done by hand, using skills passed down through generations.
And every handwoven Pendant is one-of-a-kind, respecting the creative direction of the weaver.
It is why our shipments are small. It's also why they are special.
